Sheepadoodle puppies for sale: how to buy safely

Sheepadoodle puppies are in demand, which attracts both excellent breeders and scammers. This guide covers how to evaluate a seller. Sheepadoodle.net does not sell puppies or endorse any breeder.

Where to look

Start with referrals from your veterinarian, local breed or doodle clubs, and breeders who let you visit. Rescue groups also place Sheepadoodles and Poodle or Old English Sheepdog mixes, often at far lower cost.

Questions to ask a breeder

Can I meet the mother, and the father or see his records? Both parents should live in a clean, social environment.

What health tests were done on both parents, and can I see the results? Ask for hip and eye evaluations, and for Poodle-relevant DNA tests such as von Willebrand disease and progressive retinal atrophy.

What is the generation (F1, F1b, multigen) and the expected adult size?

What does your contract guarantee, and will you take the dog back at any age?

How are puppies socialized before going home?

Red flags

Only communicates by text or email, will not video call, and will not let you see the puppies or parents.

Asks for payment by gift card, wire or payment app before you have seen anything, or pressures you with "only one left".

Always has puppies available, sells multiple breeds, or sells puppies under 8 weeks old.

Cannot show any health testing on the parents.

Prices far below the going rate. Check any listing with your state attorney general or consumer protection office, and report fraud to the FTC.

Before you pay

Get a written contract, vaccination and deworming records, and the parents' test results. Many states have puppy lemon laws that give buyers remedies; check yours.
