Sheepadoodle types compared

"Sheepadoodle" covers several kinds of dog. The label tells you about the parents, not a guaranteed result, so treat sizes and coats as tendencies.

TypeParentageTypical sizeExercise
Standard SheepadoodleA Standard Poodle crossed with an Old English Sheepdog.Adults commonly land around 60 to 85 pounds and 20 to 27 inches at the shoulder, with males usually larger.60 to 90 minutes/day
Mini SheepadoodleA Miniature Poodle crossed with an Old English Sheepdog, or a Standard Sheepadoodle bred back toward a smaller Poodle.Adults are often described as about 25 to 45 pounds and 15 to 20 inches, though the cross is less predictable than a purebred.45 to 60 minutes/day
F1 SheepadoodleFirst generation: one purebred Poodle parent and one purebred Old English Sheepdog parent.Depends on the Poodle parent used; often medium to large.60 minutes/day
F1b SheepadoodleAn F1 Sheepadoodle bred back to a Poodle, so puppies are roughly 75% Poodle and 25% Old English Sheepdog.Often closer to the Poodle parent's size.60 minutes/day
Multigenerational SheepadoodleSheepadoodles bred to other Sheepadoodles across several generations (often called F2, F3 or "multigen"), rather than back to a purebred each time. Can be more consistent within a breeder's lines, since size and coat are selected over generations.60 minutes/day

Choosing between them

Size drives most of the decision, so start with how much space and strength you can handle. Then think about coat: curlier, Poodle-heavier crosses (F1b) usually shed less but need more grooming. For consistency, ask breeders about multigenerational lines. Read the puppy buying guide before you contact anyone, and use the state directory for climate-specific care.
