Sheepadoodle haircuts and coat care
The Sheepadoodle coat is their signature, and it needs a plan. Here are the popular haircuts, a realistic schedule and the habits that prevent mats.
Popular Sheepadoodle cuts
- Teddy bear cut: even, rounded length around the face and body.
- Puppy cut: a uniform length, easy to maintain.
- Summer cut: a shorter all-over clip for warm weather.
- Natural or long cut: longer coat, which needs the most brushing.
Coat type depends on generation
F1 coats vary from loose waves to curls, and F1b coats tend to be curlier. Curlier coats mat faster and need more frequent grooming. See the type pages for details on each generation.
A realistic grooming schedule
- Brush and comb to the skin several times a week.
- Professional groom every 6 to 8 weeks.
- Bathe every 4 to 8 weeks, and dry the coat fully.
- Check ears, eyes, paws and teeth weekly.
Preventing mats
Mats start behind the ears, under the collar, in the armpits and on the back legs. Use a slicker brush and a metal comb, working in sections. Our main grooming guide covers the tools and the full routine.
